Dr. Amos Lewis!
Dr. Amos L. Lewis is an accomplished community leader, pastor, and mentor. With an impressive background, he has made a significant impact on the lives of many.
As the first African American to win the prestigious John Philip Sousa Band Award, his talent and dedication were evident from an early age.
After serving in the United States Air Force for 21 years, Dr. Lewis retired as a Master Sergeant and embraced his calling as the full-time Senior Pastor of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.
Dr. Lewis's visionary leadership has transformed Rising Star into a thriving community. Under his guidance, the church experienced remarkable growth, expanding from less than 100 members to over 1,000 at its peak. He spearheaded the construction of a state-of-the-art multipurpose facility, exemplifying his commitment to providing an exceptional environment for worship and fellowship.
Beyond his pastoral duties, Dr. Lewis actively engages with the community. He serves as the Director of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance Community Action Team, where he brings together clergy, community leaders, and concerned citizens to address pressing issues in the African American community.
Additionally, he contributes as a board member of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Committee, organizing the annual march and celebration in Tucson.
Recognized for his exceptional service, Dr. Lewis has received numerous awards and honors, including the Robert L. Horn Service Award and the Rosa Parks Living History Makers Faith Based Award.
The Vanguard Newspaper has acknowledged his impact and influence by honoring him as one of the 25 Most Influential African-Americans in Southern Arizona.
Dr. Lewis's commitment to personal growth is unwavering. He recently completed his doctorate in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Christian Ministry from Grand Canyon University in October 18, 2023.
As the president and founder of A. L. Lewis Ministries, he has authored six books, including the acclaimed Pearls of Wisdom Daily Devotional.
